Minutes of GNCC General meeting – April 19, 2006
Meeting location- French Educational Centre, Suite 420-256 Wallace Street. The meeting
followed a picture presentation by Debby Keith and Jim Kirby on a recent cycle tour to the
island of Kauai.
Present- Dave Beer, Jim Kirby, Keith Brown, Debby Keith, Bernie Dunning, Nancy McInnes,
Barbara Henoch, John van Beek, Michael Bean, Gay Cunningham.
- Nanaimo Area Land Trust is asking if the GNCC would like to have a table at the Earth Day event at the Country Club mall Saturday April 22 from 11am to 4 pm. A table will be provided, a tent should be set up in case of rain. Jim and Debby will bring the tent and handouts/material about 9am for set-up. Barbara, Nancy, Dave, Keith, Jim and Debby volunteered to provide support thru the day.
- Michael introduced what may be a final draft of a hand-out brochure giving
information about the GNCC, it's goals, encouraging people to join the GNCC and
get involved. All agreed the brochure looks very good, with several minor
ammendments- the words "mailing address" is to be added in front of the
address given on the brochure to eliminate the possible impression that the
address means an office space, the font will be consistant, and the GNCC logo
is to be eliminated from the front fold of the brochure. It was agreed to
have 1000 copies of a black and red version made at a cost of $350.00. Michael
to ensure this to be done. It was also agreed to pay Johanne Galipeau $100.00
for her help in designing the brochure. Michael agreed to finalize this detail also.
- Dave tabled the financial report. As of April 19/06 we had $777.54 in the
bank account and financial commitments of $47.82 not yet deducted. We received
$108.00 in memberships at the meeting also. Thanks to Dave for handling the
treasurer duties, and for presenting a thorough accounting of the GNCC finances.
- Dave agreed to clarify the issue of who currently has signing authority.
- Keith Brown reports that there are 26 paid-up members as of tonight. There
were also several members who renewed this evening also.
- Routes and Technical issues- Keith is to pursue the question of the city
providing their bike route map on a website..linked to the GNCC website?
Barbara would like any ideas members may have regarding R&T issues brought
to her attention so she can pursue them thru Richard Harding. Dave suggested
that the E&N trail could use more consistent cleaning because of broken glass.
- Nancy brought up the issue (agreed to previously at a GNCC general meeting
some months ago) of having a member contact list available to members who agreed
to this. It would allow a person to contact other members directly if someone
wanted to arrange a bike ride, for example. Keith is to contact members who have
email and put a note to this effect on the website also, giving members an
opportunity, and deadline, to indicate if they do not want to be on this list.
Immediately following this deadline, Keith is to email this list to all
consenting members (with email). For those members who do not have email,
Barbara volunteered to send out that list by snail-mail.
