3. Financial report- at the moment the GNCC has about $320.00 in the bank, although there are several outstanding invoices. There are currently 18 paid-up members.
BC Ferries, see also above. There is a need to have secure bike storage at terminals to allow cyclists to leave them there possibly overnight (a locking cage type facilty perhaps). As noted above Dave to acknowledge David Hahn's letter and hopefully things will continue to improve.
Leisure Guide rides- There are two rides scheduled, one on May 6 to Skutz Falls, and one on June 17 to Gabriola Island. Tobi and Michael Bean to attend the Gabriola ride, John van Beek and Keith may attend also.
4. Ongoing Business-

5. New business-
Tobi has talked with the folks at Oak Bay Cycles and reports that they are willing to sell GNCC memberships. All agreed that this would be a good thing. Tobi will touch bases with Oak Bay (again) and Arrowsmith, Dave to touch bases with Pacific Rim and Bastion. The "It's all About The Bike" brochure could be given out with memberships. There was some discussion about the revival of the SpokeLore newsletter, but our lack of volunteers to take on this task doesn't allow this at this time.
There is a website where cyclists can touch bases with cycle-friendly people who will assist them with....showers? accomodation? local advice? The site is www.warmshowers.org. Discussion about the GNCC involvement in local events such as the Miners Picnic (date?), Big Bike Ride(May 24&25), Beban Bikesmart training(April 30), Critical Mass event(June 8), and the Bike to work week(May 28-June 3). (Jim's note....I'm drafting these minutes on April 30....the GNCC is unlikely to have any involvement in today's event). The Big Bike ride is a charity event sponsored by the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the GNCC will not be involved . The other events will require volunteers to come forward.
6. Other business-
John reports that the Top Bridge over the Englishman River will be completed by June, and that the Kinsol Trestle reconstruction appears to be still on track...stay tuned for more updates.
John, Dave, and Jim to get together Wed. May 2, 10:00 AM at Esquires Coffee at Longwood to discuss the RDN plan. The GNCC is supporting the continuation of the E&N trail northward towards Parksville.
Meeting adjourned at 9:05 pm
