Minutes of GNCC General meeting – June 12, 2007

Commenced 7:00 pm at Volunteer Nanaimo office, #3- 2350 Labieux Rd.

Present: Chris Boldt, Bernie Dunning, Keith Brown, John Van Beek, Dave Beer, Jim Kirby, Gordie Ludvigson, Keith Phillips.

Business

1. Minutes of previous meeting – approved.

2. Critical Mass ride – discussion.

3. Financial report as of May 31, 2007 we have $375.79 in the bank.

4. Ongoing business:

• A draft of a letter to BC Ferries was circulated by Dave Beer for comments. It was agreed that the GNCC should provide more details as to standards of bike facilities at the ferry terminals or on-board the ferries. Dave will re-draft a response and circulate to board members for comments prior to sending off to BC Ferries.
• GNCC package for bike stores (bike stores will sell GNCC memberships): Dave provided a draft list of local information which could be included in this package. Board members should communicate directly with Dave with further comments. The list looked very thorough. Michael Bean and Dave will see this to completion.
• Upcoming rides
  • John’s Birthday ride July 29 is confirmed, may take in new Top Bridge on this ride. It will be 84 km; John will be 84.
  • Bike For Your Life – August 12th for Heart & Stroke, Parksville.
  • July 24th Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition Gabriola Island
  • Keith Brown will get the details of all these rides on our website.

5. Other business – BCCC meeting on June 23rd. John VB is looking for company. Anyone interested?

6. John reported on several issues:

• Kinsol Trestle still ongoing – 4.5 million may be sufficient to fund the rebuild of the trestle.
• Ontario bike train – a great idea, information should be passed on to Southern Railway currently operating the E&N. John to provide advice to Dave to expediate this

7. .Chris Boldt was appointed to the GNCC board. Welcome aboard Chris!
