Minutes of GNCC General meeting — May 27, 2008.

Present: Jordon Ellis, Karen Hunter, Tobi Ming, Dave Beer, Keith Brown, Jim Kirby

  1. Membership: 28 paid up members as of now. Total number of “other” members about 24. Let's encourage re-signing of these folks. There are 5 board members as of now.
  2. Green Solutions feedback: exceeded expectations. Lots of people, lots of interaction about cycling issues. Some interest in electric bikes. If invited back, we should participate.
  3. Nanaimo Engineering feedback: City has its Bicycle network plan and Nanaimo Cycling Survey. Surveys are available.
  4. Nanaimo Cycling Map – Transit is supposed to be doing the reverse side of the map, not completed yet. Comments welcomed – Should show washrooms, grocery stores.
  5. $220.00 approximately available in the bank.
  6. Events and rides – John Van Beek should have a farewell event – June 14th is a possibility – pot luck at Jim and Debby's house. Everything will be confirmed.
  7. Little Qualicum Falls ride next Sunday – Chapters @ 09:00 RSVP to Tobi please. 95 km round trip. www.Nanaimoinformation.com
  8. Correspondence: Island Corridor Foundation has replied to GNCC letter agreeing in principle to suggestion put forward re improved bike facilities on E&N rail network.
  9. Equipment to loan to members? This is presently in Dave's possession. Should this be loaned out to members as an incentive? For two weeks?
  10. Cycling articles – have been several interesting articles lately.
  11. Bike to work week – check out website for notes (Jim). Celebration stations?
  12. Other business: Karen is volunteering to go to bike store to confirm how much of price reduction stores are offering and let us know.
  13. June 24th meeting – Keith will be chair. Maybe one of his neighbours who is a bicycle cop may speak. Either that or possibly make it a bike ride and a beer.
  14. Reminder: Bikely.com has information on bike routes.
