Business Meeting

  1. Review of previous minutes - OK, with 2 minor amendments - adopted as changed:
  2. Correspondence - add “#4 - 1150 Terminal Ave.” This is what our address has been.
  3. Treasurer's Report - down $132.82 from this time last year - can we save $ by going with another internet provider. Chris will look into a less expensive alternative.
  4. Discussion - Can we increase membership???
  5. Beer and Burger night might bring in more dollars than a raffle. We would need volunteers to work the Beer and Burger night, to get donations for the raffle, and people to attend the Beer and Burger night and spend their money.
  6. Tobi and Karen have a written Spokelore for presentation and discussion - with the idea of producing 4 copies per year.
  7. Chris will look into having SpokeLore printed at the Volunteer Centre. The SpokeLore is in the draft stage at the moment.
  8. We are hoping to get the first edition of SpokeLore done by December 1st. Members are encouraged to write articles for the new SpokeLore.
  9. January 1st Resolution Ride? Could be announced in SpokeLore.
  10. $15 for corporate ads. Tobi/Karen editor/publisher.

Ongoing Business

  1. 1.Reminding people again about bike maintenance equipment available for loan to paid up current members. Also three bike trailers. This should be mentioned in SpokeLore December 2008 (winter) edition.
  2. Cycling Map for local region status? Not sure.
  3. Bike Parking Brochure is circulated and ready to use.
  4. Volunteer facility, current meeting place - continue meeting on Tuesdays? See no reason to change. Chris to confirm with Volunteer Centre if good for a Tuesday time slot. Chris to advise only if there is an issue.
  5. Tobi mentions that GNCC reps should meet with newly elected officials
  6. GNCC has no designated BCCC rep at the moment.
  7. Storage - Jim will bring some of the GNCC items kept in his basement to the next meeting to disperse.
  8. New initiatives? Karen suggests (to Janna from Vancouver Island University) that GNCC could be invited to pertinent VIU events to have a table.
    • Karen had a party and invited cyclists - asked Arrowsmith Bike store person to attend and they did. They checked over people's bikes and drank beer in return.
    • Karen's idea is members could be advised of events where their bikes could be inspected and tuned.
    • Could bike rides be coordinated with farm fairs, agri tours, farmers' markets, etc.? These are very trendy right now...Anyone wanting to arrange a bike ride please note...
    • Can we tap into any funding from any of the green initiatives that are so popular now?
