Minutes of GNCC General meeting — February 24, 2009.

Presentation

Dave introduced Frank Smitka who gave an interesting and informative talk on cycling in the Czech Republic.

Welcome to Gordon Wallace, a new member.

Bike to Work Week 2009. We will be more active in the planning and implementing BTWW activities this year. We have a minimum of 4 people who can volunteer. Dave will attend their planning meetings. BTWW is early this year, May 11 – 17, 2009. Some suggestions were to gather and post posters, e-mail or hand deliver information to businesses who might wish to enter teams, or man a celebration station on one of the routes during BTWW. We hope GNCC members will be more willing to participate, before or during the event.

Social Rides. We had six participants on our Feb 15 social ride and hope for more next time. The next one is scheduled for Sunday, March 8 at 10:00AM, leaving from the Coyote Café parking lot (Terminal at St. George St.), weather permitting. Participants will arrange a route that interests them. We hope to continue with rides from this location on two or three week intervals. Come on out!

Contacting Members: An offshoot of the above topic was about how we communicate events to members via e-mail. Please, when sending out information to a mailing list, use the BCC heading in your mail program so the names and addresses are not visible. Thanks.

Organized multi-day bike trip. Chris is interested in cycling Vancouver Island and the Sunshine coast over a period of 5 or 6 days. Initial thoughts are to do it in a counter clockwise fashion fairly early in June. Cyclists would carry their clothes with them but will stay in motels (no camping or cooking gear required). We would like to find out who might be interested ASAP and then the participants can plan the exact route / itinerary. Probably even numbers work best for accommodation. RSVP, Chris or Dave.

Spokelore. We need to get on the spring edition quickly, however some key members are currently out of town.

Keith will send a note to members containing a link so they can read GNCC meeting minutes. Many members have difficulty attending regularly so they can still stay in touch.

Next meeting: Tuesday, March, 25, 7:00PM at the Volunteer Nanaimo / Big Brother & Big Sister Offices at #3- 2350 Labieux (under the Coast Capital Credit Union). Keith is the Chair for this meeting. Hope to see you there.
